Eliminate Defects!

Lean Six Sigma

Master data-driven problem solving and continuous improvement.
We believe process improvement only counts if it changes what happens on the ground, not what’s printed on a certificate. Lean Six Sigma is a case in point: the methods are excellent, but they only work when they’re driven by evidence, not opinion.
This course teaches you to find and fix the root cause of a process problem using DMAIC — Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. Instead of guessing where waste or defects come from, you’ll learn to let the data show you, then apply a structured method to close the gap for good.

You’ll learn to:
• Frame a process problem so it can actually be solved with data
• Apply the DMAIC methodology from definition through control
• Identify root causes of defects and variation, not just symptoms
• Reduce defects and stabilize a process so the fix sticks

Every SKILLAGILITY course comes with a practical toolkit you can apply immediately — this one includes DMAIC templates and root-cause analysis tools you’ll use on a real process, not a hypothetical one.

What you’ll walk away with: one completed DMAIC project on a process of your choice, with a documented defect-rate reduction of at least 30%.

This course sits in the “Cut the Waste!” step of the Business Excellence roadmap, right after Lean Management. If Lean Management is about eliminating obvious waste with the A3 method, Lean Six Sigma is where you go when the cause isn’t obvious — when you need data to tell you what’s really going on.

Do I need a Lean or Six Sigma background to take this course?

No. The course starts from the DMAIC framework itself and builds up from there. If you’ve already taken Lean Management, you’ll recognize the mindset — this course adds the statistical, data-driven layer on top.

What’s the difference between this course and Lean Management?

Lean Management is your entry point: eliminate obvious waste using the structured A3 method. Lean Six Sigma is the next layer — for problems where the cause isn’t obvious and you need data to find it. Think of Lean Management as fixing what you can see, and Lean Six Sigma as fixing what the data reveals. You won’t start from zero here: this course builds directly on the tools and techniques from Lean Management and puts them to work inside the DMAIC structure, alongside the statistical tools that are new to this level.

Is this a certification course?

Yes. SKILLAGILITY issues a certification on completion, and the course is aligned with the ASQ Body of Knowledge — so it also prepares you to sit the external ASQ exam for Green Belt and/or Black Belt certification, if you choose to. The course itself covers the full Black Belt level of knowledge; during your real project, you choose which tools the problem actually requires. A more contained problem might only call for the Green Belt toolkit, while a more complex one will pull from the full Black Belt range. Either way, you’re applying exactly as much rigor as the problem needs — not more, not less.

What will I actually be able to do afterward?

You’ll be able to take a real process problem, define it clearly, measure it with the right data, analyze it for root cause, improve it with a targeted fix, and put controls in place so it doesn’t drift back. The success measure is concrete: one completed DMAIC project, defect rate down at least 30%.

Do I need my own process to work on?

Yes — and that’s intentional. This isn’t a theoretical exercise. You’ll apply DMAIC to a real process in your own work, because a method you’ve only read about isn’t a method you can use.

How does this fit with the rest of Business Excellence?

This course lives in “Streamline the Process Landscape,” the third phase of Business Excellence. It follows Business Process Optimization (mapping the process) and Lean Management (removing obvious waste), and it feeds into Quality Assurance Frameworks (locking in the gains) and AI and Process Automation (automating what’s now stable).

Why does SKILLAGILITY teach Lean Six Sigma if it’s already a well-known methodology?

Because well-known doesn’t mean well-applied. Most Lean Six Sigma training stops at the certificate. This course is built on the belief that the methods are genuinely excellent — but only continuous improvement (KVP), not a one-time course, makes them stick. The toolkit is designed for you to use this week, not file away.
